Arguments

Intended labeling (shared with English)

√PAY_GIVE + ApplHAVE(Recipient, MeasurePAmount ⟨n, U⟩) + -ért-Consideration

Voice introduces Payer. Low ApplHAVE introduces Recipient and relates Recipient to the MeasureP. √PAY- / fizet takes MeasureP ⟨n, U⟩ — Amount plus Denomination — as Incremental Theme of eHAVE. That theme is the money. The accusative object family already printed on the live Hungarian measuring pages (Mit / …-t) is the MeasureP letter adopted here. Recipient’s preferred cloth is dative-like -nak/-nek, the Appl letter live jóváír prints on Account and live MERIT/ATT print on Target. No fizet clause is printed on this site, so that Recipient letter is constructed packaging and stays open as elicitation. Consideration is -ért, ranked from the printed FEE string egy bitcoinért. Index 2’s outer slot is labeled Purpose. If a Purpose phrase stacks beside that -ért DP, the split stays flagged. One preverbal Focus host: the Group C note says Amount and Recipient cannot both be that unique Focus. fizet is not a particle stem. Optional Platform / Source are extras — not Theme₃.

Examples

No English DOC of Recipient and MeasureP as two bare accusatives. Amount stays accusative. Recipient, where it is spelled, wears -nak/-nek. That spelling is a packaging hypothesis. The site prints the lemma fizet in the Index 2 Payment cell and names it as the later payment root beside felszámol, jóváír, and levon. It does not print a fizet clause. Every fizet string below is constructed and tagged. The Pat/Chris frames mirror English Pat paid Chris twenty dollars in the accusative MeasureP plus dative-like Recipient cloth those live pages already use for other roots. They are not elicitation.

fizet has no fel- or le- to leave the verb. Focus and nem still take the one preverbal host, the plate live on charge-fee-hu, credit-fin-hu, and blame-hu. Nothing separates off fizet when that host is filled. The Group C pay note, quoted as printed in the lexical entry, is: “Hungarian fizet: Focus on Amount vs Recipient.” Indefinite húsz dollárt takes indefinite fizetett. A definite measure would take fizette. That alternation is object definiteness, the cut already used on the live Hungarian pages. It is not a second argument. The definite string below is constructed.

Live FEE Consideration is egy bitcoinért on Mit számolnak fel egy bitcoinért? (charge-fee-hu). Blame’s Charge also wears non-alternating -ért (a késésért). On fizet the MeasureP is the accusative money, so an -ért DP of the leftover goods is ranked Consideration — the job FEE gives egy bitcoinért — not a price QP and not a second object. The ranking is a packaging hypothesis. No fizet string prints that DP. Index 2’s optional outer slot is labeled Purpose. Whether a Purpose phrase can stack beside the Consideration DP (a hogy-clause, or a second -ért) is open. It is not checked and not starred. miatt is the Reason letter already used on levon and jóváír. A miatt string of fizet is not printed and is not ranked.

Index 2 companion · not this geometry

átutal is the other stem in the Payment cell (Vols. 3, 6). át- is that companion’s morphology. This page does not fill a GIVE Case frame for átutal, and it does not copy át- onto fizet as a particle to separate. English remit / wire / transfer do not license that frame. credit-fin-hu already says a later átutal can move funds off a ledger credit. That later event is not this root.

Notes

Working paper · October 2026 · Hungarian micro-entry · Index 2 Payment · Group C

Give-geometry pay in Hungarian. Recipient’s preferred cloth is dative-like -nak/-nek (constructed; no printed fizet clause). Amount is an accusative MeasureP ⟨n, U⟩ (Mit / …-t). Consideration is -ért on the leftover DP, ranked from live FEE egy bitcoinért, not a second object and not a price QP. Same √PAY_GIVE + ApplHAVE geometry as English payGIVE and the Romance twins. One preverbal Focus host: Amount and Recipient cannot both be it. fizet does not separate a particle. e2 is Recipient HAS Amount.

Sister sense (do not merge): payBILL — no Hungarian BILL page. Index 2 Payment: fizet, átutal (Vols. 3, 6). Companion átutal is a class pointer, not a second root. Geometry neighbors: give · chargeFEE · felszámol · creditFIN · jóváír · deduct · levon · blame · hibáztat · remit · wire · transfer.

Working paper. Hungarian micro-entry for Index 2 Payment fizet. Geometry is shared with Lexical_Entry_Pay_Argument_Structure and the English payGIVE page. Case clothes are guided by letters already printed on live Hungarian pages: accusative MeasureP (Mit számolnak fel? on felszámol; 0,3 ETH-t on jóváír), dative-like -nak/-nek on Account and on MERIT/ATT Target, -ért Consideration in egy bitcoinért. The Group C note on this root is the sentence “Hungarian fizet: Focus on Amount vs Recipient.” Constructed diagnostics are labeled. They are not spontaneous-speech citations.
Constructed examples. No fizet clause is printed on the site. Frames below mirror English Pat paid Chris twenty dollars in accusative MeasureP plus -nak/-nek Recipient, with optional -ért Consideration. Payment-true is e2 (Recipient HAS Amount). Goods-HAVE, invoice-clearance, debit/OWE, HAS_ON_BOOKS, and the decrement are not defaults of this root. Do not fake elicitation.
Class table. Index 2 lists Hungarian Payment as fizet, átutal (Vols. 3, 6), with the line Agent > Amount > Recipient (> Purpose) and Amount = measuring. This page deepens fizet only, as payGIVE. átutal stays the companion in that cell. No filled Case frame is invented for it. Index 2’s optional outer slot is labeled Purpose. The lexical entry’s for-layer on GIVE is Consideration. Hungarian’s live for-letter on FEE is -ért. The ranking below uses that letter for a goods DP. It is flagged where it goes past a printed string — and no fizet string is printed.
Recipient Case. -nak/-nek is the preferred ApplHAVE cloth because that is the dative-like letter on live Account and Target. The Group C note names Recipient as a Focus competitor with Amount. It does not print the suffix. No kinek frame of fizet is elicited. The letter stays open as a field judgment. Polish płacić is live (Done=103). Bulgarian плащам is live (Done=104). The suggested following Index 2 Payment citation is a pause, or Group D German bezahlen, or an unfilled companion. German is not opened here. Navajo money-HANDLE stays deferred. Do not invent credit-merit-bg.html or credit-merit-pl.html. Hungarian payBILL is not opened.

Hierarchy

Same inventory as English payGIVE and the Romance twins. Not four-place. Surface count can name Pat, Chris, twenty dollars, and a lawnmower, but the lexicon does not list four co-arguments of √PAY_GIVE / fizet.

húsz dollárt = one MeasureP. Twenty is not dollars. Dollars is not a sister of fizet. Orthography of the accusative -t on dollár is the case of that one object. There is no extra argument “currency symbol.”

What Group C changes is the one preverbal Focus host, and the absence of a particle on this stem. What it does not change is the inventory. On payGIVE, Recipient HAS Amount and -ért holds the leftover DP. Payment-true is e2. There is no Hungarian sell page on this site, so goods-HAVE is not given a local Price cloth here. It remains the missing default, as the Romance sell pages already say of pagare / payer / pagar.

MeasureP WH diagnostics

WH forces Amount ≠ Denomination inside one accusative object of fizet. Verbal WH sees the MeasureP, not unit and degree as two objects. No fizet question is printed. The printed measuring WH on this site is the FEE set Mit számolnak fel?, Miben számolnak fel?, Milyen pénznemben?, and the LBC star Mit húsz számolnak fel?, plus FIN Mennyi ETH-t írt jóvá…? and Mennyit írt jóvá…?. The fizet strings below reuse those shapes without fel- or jóvá-, because this stem has no particle to strand. They are constructed. WH is Focus, so the question word is the unique preverbal host. Focus uniqueness of Mit and miben is the star already printed as Mit miben számolnak fel?.

  1. ✓ Mit fizetett Pat? constructed · ACC MeasureP · FEE shape Mit számolnak fel?
  2. ✓ Mennyi dollárt fizetett? constructed · whole QP · FIN shape Mennyi ETH-t írt jóvá…?
  3. ✓ Mennyit fizetett? constructed · degree; unit bound · FIN shape Mennyit írt jóvá…?
  4. ✓ Miben fizetett? constructed · U recoding · FEE shape Miben számolnak fel?
  5. ✓ Milyen pénznemben fizetett? constructed · same U question · FEE short form Milyen pénznemben?
  6. ✓ Kinek fizetett Pat húsz dollárt? constructed · Recipient WH · -nek packaging · no printed kinek + fizet string
  7. ✓ Miért fizetett Pat húsz dollárt? constructed · Reason · miért ≠ Amount · letter already used as Charge-WH on blame-hu
  8. * Mit húsz fizetett? constructed · LBC / sortal mismatch · same star shape as printed Mit húsz számolnak fel?
  9. * Mit miben fizetett? constructed · Focus uniqueness · Mit and miben cannot both be the unique Focus · FEE shape Mit miben számolnak fel?

Left Branch Condition: Amount lives inside MeasureP. The degree does not extract and leave the unit next to the verb. The printed rejection is Mit húsz számolnak fel?. Mit húsz fizetett? is that shape on this stem, tagged constructed. Rescues that keep Amount and unit inside one object are mennyi dollárt, mennyit with the unit bound, and miben / milyen pénznemben. The rescue does not make dollár a sister of fizetett.

Geometry · payGIVE ≠ felszámol ≠ payBILL ≠ jóváír ≠ levon

In the constructed Pat Chrisnek húsz dollárt fizetett, Chris comes to HAVE the twenty. That is give-geometry. Dative-like Recipient is the preferred spell-out of low ApplHAVE. The Incremental Theme is a MeasureP of funds, not goods. The HAVE claim is the shared geometry. The Recipient suffix is the open packaging.

Which theta role is the object in this low ApplHAVE domain is the revisable note Causative templates and argument selection.

  • ≠ felszámol / chargeFEE. FROM dual. Mit számolnak fel egy bitcoinért? is a levy: money FROM, e2 = debit / OWE. fizet is money TO, e2 = Recipient HAS Amount. Shared accusative MeasureP family and shared -ért do not make the Appl head one. fel- separates on felszámol. It is not a morpheme of fizet. FEE leaves Payer Case open. This page’s open Case is Recipient, not that Payer.
  • ≠ payBILL. Invoice/obligation as the object; MeasureP as instrument. English rejects a DOC of twenty dollars and the invoice. This page does not open a Hungarian BILL lemma, and it does not write a számlát and the money as two objects of GIVE. e2 of BILL is invoice-clearance, not Recipient HAS Amount.
  • ≠ creditFIN · jóváír. Ledger increment. The printed cloth is A tanács minden számlának 0,3 ETH-t jóváírt: dative Account, accusative MeasureP. e2 is HAS_ON_BOOKS, not payout and not Recipient HAS the cash. That page already says fizet / átutal are not this root. The shared -nak/-nek letter is Account there and, on the hypothesis here, Recipient. Same case letters are not the same licenser. jóvá- separates under Focus. fizet has no such prefix.
  • ≠ deduct · levon. MeasureP leaves a Domain (-ról/-ről). e2 is the decrement. le- separates. Payment stays fizet, átutal in that page’s Index 2 cell. Not HAVE of the Amount.
  • ≠ elismer / tulajdonít / hibáztat. MERIT, ATT, and blame. Dative on those pages is Target, not a payment Recipient. Blame’s accusative is the Target, and its -ért is Charge. None of them has a MeasureP of funds. hibáztat also has no prefix, which is the morphological parallel for “no particle,” not a shared root.
  • ≠ cserél / swap. Index 2 Transfer cites cserél / kicserél, ad, not fizet. fizet does not invert money and goods.
  • Payment-true is e2. A follow-up that Chris never ended up with the twenty denies e2 of payGIVE. Goods-HAVE is sell. Invoice-clearance is BILL. Debit/OWE is FEE. HAS_ON_BOOKS is FIN. The decrement is levon.

Ordinary coercion toward trade (Amount as Theme₁, lawnmower as Theme₂) is available and is not the listed grid. átutal is not filled in as that coercion.

Hungarian fizet does not assign four structural Cases. Amount is accusative. Recipient, on the preferred hypothesis, is dative-like -nak/-nek. Consideration is inside -ért. The English DOC applied-object slot — Recipient as a second accusative — has no twin. There is no particle node. fizetett does not split.

The constituent immediately before the verb is the single Focus host when one is used. Material further left can be a topic. It is not a second Focus. That is the cut blame-hu already writes, and the cut credit-fin-hu stars as Nem 0,3 ETH-t minden számlának írt jóvá a tanács. On jóváír the prefix leaves the stem when Focus or nem takes the slot. On fizet the slot has no particle to displace. The one-host ceiling remains. Because no neutral fizet string is printed, this page does not claim that an immediately preverbal húsz dollárt is Focus-less. A particle verb can look Focus-less with the object preverbal while the prefix fills the verb-modifier slot. fizet has no prefix in that slot.

Focus · one host · constructed from the Group C note

✓ Húsz dollárt fizetett Pat Chrisnek. constructed · Amount is the unique preverbal host

* Nem húsz dollárt Chrisnek fizetett Pat. constructed · Amount and Recipient both between nem and the verb · one host · FIN shape Nem 0,3 ETH-t minden számlának írt jóvá…

Amount is Incremental Theme of pay on the give-reading. The lawnmower is Consideration, not Theme. Homomorphism is on ⟨n, U⟩. A passive that promotes the Recipient as a bare nominative applied object would be the English DOC twin. It is not filed. Building that passive on a prefixed verb would invent a stem Index 2 does not cite here. The gap is recorded. No prefixed twin is given a frame.

Voice filter: weather fails Payer. Institutional payers (the city, payroll, escrow) pass on the English and Romance pages. The Hungarian weather star below is that filter in the clothes already used for A rossz időjárás felszámol and A rossz időjárás minden számlának 0,3 ETH-t jóváírt. Constructed. Weaker than Voice on blame — a city can pay; it cannot blame.

Omission does not demote the MeasureP or Consideration to pure adjuncts when present. The diagnostic is participanthood under Case, binding, and WH — not omitability.

N/A · not Hungarian payGIVE diagnostics

Sibling pages omit diagnostics the language does not have. Hungarian fizet is accusative MeasureP, preferred dative-like Recipient, ranked -ért Consideration, and one preverbal Focus host, with no particle on the stem. It is not a copy of Romance clitics, a Germanic separable prefix, or genitive of negation.

  • A fel- or le- separation of fizet. N/A. fizet is not that stem. fel- belongs to felszámol. le- belongs to levon. No separation string is filed for fizet.
  • A filled frame for átutal, or át- as a particle of this root. N/A. át- is the companion’s morphology. The companion stays an Index 2 stem without a GIVE Case frame.
  • An English DOC or to-frame as a second Hungarian frame. N/A. Recipient is not a second bare accusative. The English alternation stays on pay-give.html.
  • Romance clitic doubling. N/A. le + a, and Italian gli beside a in separate strings, stay on the Romance pages. Hungarian has no such clitic pair to file.
  • Spanish por / para or Italian per as Hungarian letters. N/A. The live for-letter here is -ért. Purpose vs Consideration is a complement-type question on that one letter, flagged open where Purpose would stack.
  • Genitive of negation rewriting the MeasureP. N/A as a Hungarian rule. nem does not rewrite húsz dollárt. The Polish rewrite is on pay-give-pl.html and the Polish measuring pages. The starred húsz dollárnak under nem is only the prohibition. -nak on that star is not the Recipient suffix.
  • Japanese Double-o, Mandarin 把 / 给 / 为. N/A. Those clothes stay on pay-give-ja.html and pay-give-zh.html.
  • Navajo money-HANDLE as a Hungarian stem. N/A. Sell · Navajo stays deferred.

NegQ pointer · association sites

Negative questions on payGIVE keep the payment map. They do not invent a fifth theta name, a Price, or an invoice. nem takes the one preverbal host when nothing else does, and it associates with the constituent in that host when a phrase is focused under it. There is no particle to follow the verb. The cheap inner associate, when the MeasureP is that host, is the accusative money. Reason (miért) stays outer. Goods-HAVE, invoice-clearance, debit/OWE, HAS_ON_BOOKS, and the decrement are missing as default Neg targets of this root.

Missing defaults: no goods-HAVE; no invoice-clearance; no debit/OWE; no HAS_ON_BOOKS; no decrement. A bare nem immediately before the verb challenges the payment event. Challenging the money wants the MeasureP in the host. Challenging the Recipient wants that person in the host.
