charge_FEE · 收 / 收费 (shōu)

Hierarchy

Same inventory as English charge_FEE. Not four-place. Surface count can name SoFi, Pat, twenty dollars, and a bitcoin, but the lexicon does not list four co-arguments of √CHARGE_FEE / √收.

$20 = 二十美元 / 二十块 = one MeasureP. Orthography / measure-word morphology is not extra arity. Amount and Denomination are both inner arguments of that object. Composition is V(QP), not V(n)(U). There is no fifth argument “currency.”

Geometry is 1+2 with optional outer Consideration: one Initiator, one applied Source, one measuring object. That is the FROM dual of 付’s Appl_HAVE. It is not English DOC copied as two Themes, not bet’s 1+3, and not 卖’s HAVE-goods + Price.

Working hierarchy: Chargor > Payer/Source_{向 / silent} > MeasureP ⟨n,U⟩_{把 / post-V} (> Consideration_为).

Companion 要…钱 (e.g. ask-for money frames) is scout packaging on the same debit cloth where the extract allows the name — not a second √, not charge_ACCOUNT, and not 控告.

Mandarin frames · Case clothes

No English DOC flip into two accusative Themes. MeasureP stays one money QP — often 把-fronted as a whole. Payer is silent or 向 (FROM). Consideration stays outside a second 把. Cheapness under a question tracks the money QP unless the Payer or the Consideration is independently in focus. Strings below are constructed from the Group A derivation and the lexical entry; they are not field elicitation. Scout flag stays on.

MeasureP WH · 多少 / 多少钱

WH forces Amount ≠ Denomination inside one Case object of FEE — here the money QP, optionally under 把. Verbal WH sees the MeasureP, not unit and degree as two objects of 收. Mandarin binds Amount in situ; a copy appears only when 把 fronts the whole QP. A copy of the degree that leaves the unit next to V is not generated.

多少 / 多少钱 is the degree match to English how much: strategy B, U bound by context (dollar, yuan), or 钱 pronounced. 多少美元 copies the # head with the WH: strategy A. Both are one object. 把多少收了钱 peels Amount off a stranded unit after 收 — the Mandarin of the LBC split. The derivation’s chain, when there is a copy, is {多少钱₂, t₂} of the whole QP under 把. There is no Amount-trace inside MeasureP with 钱 / 美金 stranded. 把一个比特币收了多少 is the sell cloth and is not generated on FEE.

Two constraints conspire on the stars: QP integrity (Amount and unit stay inside one 把 / MeasureP domain; Mandarin cannot strand 钱 after 收), and the one-object ceiling for 把 on FEE (Consideration / goods cannot become the 把-object of 收). Rescues are 多少钱, 多少美元, and in-situ 多少. The rescue does not make 钱 a sister of 收了.

Geometry · charge_FEE ≠ 付 ≠ 卖 ≠ deduct ≠ 控告

In SoFi 向帕特收了二十块, Pat is the person the money comes FROM. In 帕特付给了克里斯二十块, Chris is the person the money goes TO. Same surface human; the Appl is not the same. Follow-ups flip.

• ≠ pay_GIVE · 付 / fù. Shared MeasureP ⟨n,U⟩ and a human coverb phrase. Split: HAVE of Amount vs FROM / DEBIT. e2 of 付 is Recipient HAS the Amount (给). e2 of charge_FEE is debit / OWE of ⟨n,U⟩ on the Payer (向). Payment-true is a later pay_GIVE, not e2 of FEE. Both refuse a second 把 of goods+money. On 付 the refused second 把 is goods; on 收 the refused second 把 is Consideration as if it were Theme.
• ≠ sell · 卖 / mài. 卖: Recipient HAS goods (把 fronts goods); Price is 以/用/多少钱. 收: money is the MeasureP of the debit; 为一个比特币 is Consideration, not Price-as-Theme. *把一个比特币收了多少 is sell cloth on FEE.
• ≠ deduct. Shared FROM + MeasureP Hom. English deduct keeps Domain as from-PP and the decrement as ACC. Mandarin FEE spells Payer with 向 and may 把-front the fee QP. 从-Domain on a deduct packaging is a different cloth, not evidence that 向 was secretly a Recipient.
• ≠ charge_ACCUSE · 控告. Ascription: Judge > Target > Accusation. No selected MeasureP. No Appl_FROM of money. *向帕特控告了二十块 / *把二十块控告了迪克 put FEE clothes on ACCUSE (or ACCUSE on FEE). Point the legal neighbour to charge-accuse.html. Do not stack a fee QP and 欺诈 as one grid.
• ≠ pay_BILL · 付账. The invoice is an ACC / 把-object of 付. MeasureP, when it appears, is instrument (用), not the Theme of √CHARGE_FEE. Link pay-bill-zh.html. Crossing the roots smuggles a four-place reading and two 把s.
• ≠ charge_ACCOUNT. to-card / to-account Destination is book-entry, not this 向-Payer. A ledger Goal is a different packaging; this page does not merge it.
• Debit-true is e2. SoFi 向帕特收了二十块 is true when ⟨20, 块⟩ is debited / owed on Pat. A follow-up that Pat never paid (没付) does not deny the 收 event. A follow-up that nothing was owed on Pat denies e2. Goods-HAVE is 卖’s e2. Guilt-true is not entailed on 控告 and is irrelevant on FEE.

Voice introduces Chargor. Appl_FROM introduces Payer (overt 向, or silent x). The MeasureP sits as Incremental Theme of the debit; 把 optionally fronts that whole QP. Consideration attaches above the inner FROM and does not take a second 把. There is no Recipient HAVE shell. Putting one in is how 收 gets misread as 付. Split-field order places V between Agent and Theme when 把 fronts; that is packaging of one already-listed object, not a fifth θ-slot. 了 is Asp.

Mandarin 收 / 收费 does not assign four structural Cases the English DOC way. Chargor is preverbal. Payer is 向 or silent. MeasureP is one QP (optionally under 把). Consideration is inside P. Proto-roles are shell-local. Chargor is a partial Proto-Agent (SoFi, the shop, the meter). Payer is Proto-Source, not Proto-Recipient. MeasureP is Incremental Theme of the debit; Hom on ⟨n,U⟩. Denomination is inside that object, not a theta role of its own.

Group A (English, Japanese, Mandarin, Navajo) recodes the FROM cloth of √CHARGE_FEE. It does not add a fifth GF. This tick is Mandarin charge_FEE only — scout. The English twin is live at charge-fee.html; Japanese at charge-fee-ja.html. Open items

• Scout depth. Packaging is predicted from Group A notes (M0–M3 + lexical entry), not field-elicited. Keep the scout badge until elicitation closes 向 vs silent Payer register and bare 收 vs 收费 preference.
• Companion 要…钱. Noted as packaging; not closed as a second root this tick.
• Navajo micro-entry. Same Group A geometry; levy-stem packaging. Deferred — do not invent depth this tick.
• Passive / 被. English promotes Payer, or MeasureP when Payer is dropped. The Mandarin promotee under 被 for FEE is not closed in the SoFi extract. Left open; not invented as a result.
