The payer is the subject. betale has one bare-object slot that the sources fill with the sum, or with the bill, or with the debt, or with the person. NAOB’s schema of sense 1 prints two lines: noen betaler (noen) (noe) (for noe) and noen betaler (noe) (til noen) (for noe). The parentheses are the dictionary’s. Where this frame diverges from English pay a bill. English pay the bill makes the document the one object and brings the sum back as with or in. English pay someone can make the person a bare object. Norwegian betale en regning and betale regningen match the document, and those lines print no sum and no person. The sum is a bare object in other clauses: 5000 kroner, 500 kroner, altfor mye, Nynorskordboka 1000 kr. The goods are for.
