The one difference from the English gloss exchange X for Y with Z. English exchange X for Y marks the thing received with for. English exchange X with Z marks the partner with with. Cambridge, on the lines the German page cites, prints those as separate patterns, and prints into as a third pattern for currency. ΛΚΝ prints one preposition for the first two English prepositions. ~ κτ. με κτ. άλλο is the other item: οικόπεδο με αυτοκίνητο, the plot given, the car received, so English for sits on με. ~ κτ. με κπ. is the partner: τα προϊόντα τους με τους γειτονικούς λαούς, so English with sits on the same με. σε+accusative is a different slot. Georgakas glosses τον άλλαξε σε άνθρωπο as turned him into a man.
με the item, and με the partner. ΛΚΝ’s first sense of ανταλλάσσω is give something to someone and take something else from him. The schema splits on what follows με. ~ κτ. με κτ. άλλο is “usually for unlike things taken as equal in value,” and the filled line is Ζητά να ανταλλάξει οικόπεδο με αυτοκίνητο. The passive line of that schema is Ανταλλάσσεται διαμέρισμα με κατάστημα: the flat is the subject, the shop is με. The next schema is ~ κτ. με κπ., “for things that are, or are taken as, of the same kind.” The filled partner line is Αντάλλασσαν τα προϊόντα τους με τους γειτονικούς λαούς. The products are accusative. The neighbouring peoples are με+accusative. κτ. and κπ. are the dictionary’s own abbreviations, something and someone. The gloss για ανόμοια πράγματα and για πράγματα που είναι ομοειδή names which reading the schema has. That για governs the kind of thing. It does not govern the car or the peoples. The car and the peoples are under με.
Word order, and an added με κάποιον. ΛΚΝ also prints the partner in front of the thing: ~ με κπ. επιστολές. με κάποιον comes first. The letters are the accusative after it. Georgakas prints the two persons as a pair and the thing as the object: Σουλιώτης με Σουλιώτη αλλάζανε φιλιά. με Σουλιώτη is the other person. φιλιά is what they exchange. A clause that stacks a partner με and an item με together is unprinted. The constructed line below puts με τον Νίκο in the fronted partner slot of ~ με κπ. επιστολές and με αυτοκίνητο in the item slot of οικόπεδο με αυτοκίνητο. Each piece is printed. The stack is not a citation.
αλλάζω X με Y. ΛΚΝ sense 2γ of αλλάζω is glossed ανταλλάσσω, κάνω ανταλλαγή. Αλλάξαμε ποδήλατα has a plural subject and a plural object, and the paraphrase is that each gave his own and took the other’s. Άλλαξε το λάδι της σοδειάς του με δέκα αγελάδες has the oil as accusative and the cows as με+accusative. Θέλεις να αλλάξουμε θέσεις is a plural subject and a plural object, the seats. Georgakas’s exchange sense glosses ~ θέση με κ. as exchange places with X, and prints άλλαξα το μουλάρι με ένα γάιδαρο. Wiktionary’s currency line is πήγε να αλλάξει τα ευρώ του με δολάρια. The euros are accusative. The dollars are με.
αλλάζω X σε Y, turn into. Georgakas’s convert sense, glossed convert, transform, prints η μάγισσα τον έκαμε πουλί και σε λίγο τον άλλαξε σε άνθρωπο πάλι, glossed “the witch turned him into a bird and then back again into a man.” The bird clause on that line is έκαμε πουλί, a bare predicate of κάνω. The man clause is άλλαξε plus σε+accusative. The Ritsos line in the same sense is την οδύνη σε προσευχή and την κραυγή μου σ' έκσταση. The intransitive poem line is σε φαρμάκι δεν αλλάχνει: the food and the drink are the subject, and σε φαρμάκι is what they do not turn into. ΛΚΝ’s change-of-form sense of αλλάζω prints Το άλλαξε το υπνοδωμάτιο και το έκανε τραπεζαρία. The new use there is the object of έκανε, not a σε-phrase of άλλαξε. The σε of turn-into is the Georgakas frame.
Plural subject, and ανταλλάσσονται. An active plural subject exchanges a plural object with no partner με on several printed lines: Ανταλλάξαμε γραμματόσημα, Αλλάξαμε ποδήλατα, οι στρατιώτες ανταλλάσσουν στολές, αλλάξαμε τις ομπρέλες μας. The mediopassive makes the thing the subject. ΛΚΝ prints the singular Ανταλλάσσεται διαμέρισμα με κατάστημα, and the aorist plural ανταλλάχτηκαν / αντηλλάγησαν δώρα, with δώρα the subject and Μεταξύ των δύο πρωθυπουργών the two parties. The header marks αντηλλάγησαν as the learned third-person plural aorist. Georgakas lists learned passive ανταλλάσσομαι and demotic ανταλλάζομαι, and the present plural he fills is ανταλλάσσουνται τώρα πια ταχύτατα τα εμπορεύματα κ' οι ιδέες. ανταλλάσσουνται is the demotic spelling of that third-person plural. The learned spelling of the same cell, beside the learned ανταλλάσσομαι, is ανταλλάσσονται. The Kazantzakis line prints the demotic spelling. The goods and the ideas are the plural subject.
για+accusative, where it is printed. On ανταλλάσσω and on the exchange sense of αλλάζω, the entries opened here do not print για+accusative as the thing received. The thing received is με+accusative. για+accusative is printed in two other jobs. In the ΛΚΝ gloss it governs the kind of goods the schema applies to: για ανόμοια πράγματα, για πράγματα που είναι ή θεωρούνται ομοειδή. On χαλάω it is a purpose: Πρέπει να χαλάσω για το λεωφορείο, and, in the spending sense, πολλά (λεφτά) για το ντύσιμό μου. The bus is why the change is needed. The smaller notes, where the break-a-note line names them, are με κατοστάρικα in ΛΚΝ and σε μονόευρα in the Wiktionary example. A για-phrase in the counter-theme slot is constructed below and marked unprinted.
χαλάω / χαλώ, break a banknote. ΛΚΝ gives both stems, χαλώ and -άω. Sense 7 is κάνω ψιλά. Sense 7β is exchange a note of higher value for notes of lower value: Χάλασέ μου το πεντοχίλιαρο and Έχεις να μου χαλάσεις ένα πεντακοσάρικο με κατοστάρικα. The large note is accusative. The hundred-drachma pieces are με+accusative. μου is the indirect-object clitic, the person the change is broken for. ΛΚΝ’s money sense of αλλάζω points at this sense with το χαλώ 7 and prints Έχεις να μου αλλάξεις ένα πεντοχίλιαρο and Θα σου το αλλάξω με χιλιάρικα / με πεντακοσάρικα. Wiktionary’s sense 7 of χαλάω is the same job, glossed in English as break, and the example is Έχετε να μου χαλάσετε ένα εικοσάρικο σε μονόευρα. The twenty is accusative. The one-euro pieces are σε+accusative. The definition line of that sense still says με μικρότερης αξίας νομίσματα. με and σε are both printed on the smaller money. The page does not rank them.
The noun ανταλλαγή. ΛΚΝ: η ενέργεια ή το αποτέλεσμα του ανταλλάσσω. The examples are ανταλλαγή προϊόντων / αιχμαλώτων, Ενοικιάσεις, πωλήσεις και ανταλλαγές αυτοκινήτων, ανταλλαγή πληθυσμών, and ανταλλαγή γνωμών / πληροφοριών / απόψεων / σκέψεων / ύβρεων. The thing exchanged is a genitive on the noun. The noun is not a second verb frame, and it does not take με in the lines printed here.
