Voice[Bettor] + (Opponent 跟 ∨ 和 + DP) + Proposition(赌 + clause ∨ 赌在) + √DU-( Stake MeasureP ⟨Amount, Denomination⟩object ~ 把 ) + (Platform 在…上)

A wager has four participants: the Bettor, the Opponent, the Stake, and the Proposition. They sit in one clause with the subject. They are not four equal sisters of 赌, and the platform is not a fifth. Voice adds the Bettor. The root takes the Stake as its one object, a MeasureP ⟨n, U⟩. 把 may front that object as a whole QP. The Proposition is a selected relation on the same event: a clause after 赌 (赌…会赢), or a side in 赌在. The Opponent is oblique, a preverbal 跟-phrase. Platform (在 X 上) is a locative. Companions 打赌, 下注, and the comitative twin 和 are noted below. They do not get pages.

Four places · who wears which coverb

The Group A notes draw one clause with the Bettor, a preverbal 跟-phrase, a 把-fronted Stake, and postverbal material for the Proposition and the platform. English puts two of the four in bare noun phrases. Mandarin gives the verb one object, the Stake.

EN ⇄ ZH valency strip

Each row lines up one English slot with its Mandarin slot, in the style of a valency-frame alignment. The alignment type says what happens to the slot: = (same status), shift (structural ↔ oblique), or a packaging change inside one status. Printed dictionary glosses do not supply these clauses. Every Mandarin sentence below is constructed from the Group A notes. They show the working alignment, not frequency, and not a bilingual corpus.

The strip below is a set of small multiples. Each card holds one frame, with English on top and Mandarin under it. The Opponent chip is the one that moves: it is a bare object in English and a preverbal 跟-phrase in Mandarin. The Stake stays one object. Where English has two bare objects, the Mandarin line shows the packaging the notes treat as available.

Examples

Argument difference. English can package the Opponent and the Stake as two bare objects: bet Paul 5 BTC, a double object plus a that-clause. Mandarin puts the Opponent in a preverbal 跟-phrase and allows one object, which 把 may front as a whole QP. A packaging with the Opponent and the Stake as two bare objects after 赌 is not available. A second 把 is not available, and 把 does not front the Opponent or the platform. Those unavailable packagings are described here in prose only. Romance takes another route: the person is a dative or a contra / contre / contro phrase. Japanese puts the Opponent in comitative と and keeps one を on the Stake. See bet · Japanese.

WIN(e,w) holds iff CONTENT(e) is true in w and e is settled in w. 赌(e) does not entail WIN or LOSE. The dictionary’s second sense is “泛指争输赢”: the contest of outcomes is the commitment. The later taking of the stake is not part of that commitment. 要 and 会 in the Darshawn strings sit above the wager. They are not places of 赌, and they are not roots of it.

对, 跟, 给, 被

Four markers sit near this verb in the notes. The working claims below are revisable. The extracts are analyses, not an elicitation.

对 is AGAINST (revisable). English against Brooke covers the person and, with a possessive, the opposing stake. The notes split those the way Japanese splits に対して from comitative と: Mandarin 对 versus 跟. 对 Brooke is the person bet against. 跟 Brooke is the Opponent. 对 Shaneeqa 的 DOGE is the opposing stake. They do not fuse into one seat. This page does not rank a further height difference inside 对.

给 is a different root (revisable). The Larson panel calls 给 HAVE-coercion. On payGIVE · 付, 给 introduces a Recipient who comes to HAVE the amount. A wager’s Opponent does not come to HAVE the Stake, because settlement is not entailed. Recruiting 给 next to this meaning is a different numeration, not a second object of 赌 and not a spelling of 跟. The extracts do not print a clause in which 给 is the Opponent of 赌. The claim stays a note, not a paradigm.

被 promotes the Stake (revisable). Active 把 and passive 被 see the same patient: the Stake QP. In 一整枚比特币为什么要被赌在 Prizepicks 上对 Brooke, the QP is the subject, 要 stays above 被, and 对 Brooke stays a coverb. The notes also allow a bare unit as that subject (比特币被赌了), the silent-amount Stake. The Opponent is not the promotee. The platform is not the promotee. A topic such as Prizepicks in front of the clause is an A-bar frame in the notes, not a move into the subject of 被.

English has one complement clause, that-CP, or on plus a noun phrase. The notes give Mandarin two packagings, and they keep the platform off both.

Derivations · working sketches, revisable

Each sketch is a working drawing, not a locked analysis. The Larson panel’s point is the split field: 跟 and 把 sit before 赌 with the subject; the Proposition and the platform sit after it. That is one order. The should/would string puts 在…上 and 对 before the verb and leaves the Stake after it. Same places. Open one sketch at a time.

OPP is a relation on the same event, P-headed by 跟. It does not get a structural object case. The only object is the MeasureP. 把 fronts that QP; it does not add a place. Moving the platform before the verb, or leaving the Stake after 赌 without 把, changes order. The particles and the single object stay.

Structural case in English goes to two phrases below Voice: the applied object (Paul) and the MeasureP (5 BTC). Mandarin does not take that step. The person is a 跟-phrase. The MeasureP is the one object. The available Mandarin packaging of this English clause is the split-field tree above, with 跟 Paul and one 把-QP.

付 and 赌 can both front a MeasureP with 把. The person marker splits them. 给 on 付 is HAVE. 跟 on 赌 is the Opponent, and the notes refuse to read it as 给. The parallel is a working alignment with the live pay page, not a claim that the two roots share a template.

The promotee is the MeasureP that 把 could have fronted. 对 Brooke stays a coverb. 要 stays above 被. In this string the platform is inside 赌在…上. The Larson active panel draws platform as a separate 在. Both drawings are in the notes. Either way the platform is a locative, and the subject of 被 is the Stake. The Opponent does not become that subject. A split of the number from the unit, leaving the unit as a second object, is not a passive this analysis derives. The unavailable strings stay in the notes; they are not reprinted here.

Notes

Working paper · October 2026 · Mandarin micro-entry · Risk / Betting · Group A

Four-place risk geometry in Mandarin: Bettor (Voice, subject), Opponent (preverbal 跟 + DP, oblique), Stake (MeasureP ⟨Amount, Denomination⟩, the one object, which 把 may front as a whole QP), and Proposition (赌 + clause, or 赌在 a side). Platform under 在…上 is a locative, not a fifth place. Settlement is not entailed. The difference from English is the second object. English bet Paul 5 BTC stacks a bare Opponent next to the Stake. Mandarin keeps the Opponent in 跟 and one object for the Stake. 对 is AGAINST, the notes’ match for Japanese に対して. 给 is HAVE on another root. 被 promotes the Stake. Companions 打赌 and 下注 are named, not paged. Twin of English bet and Japanese 賭ける.

Working paper. Mandarin-only micro-entry. Dictionary glosses were checked on MDBG (CC-CEDICT), Wiktionary, and the 《现代汉语词典》第7版 entry as printed on 汉字吧. Those sources gloss 赌 and do not print the four-place frame. Constructed diagnostics come from the Group A bet notes. They are working analyses, not locked judgments, and not spontaneous-speech citations. The labeling stays revisable.
Constructed examples. Every full clause on this page is marked constructed. Dictionary lines are glosses and the 《现代汉语词典》 illustrations with the printed tilde. No example sentence was copied out of CC-CEDICT, MDBG, or the Wiktionary entry checked here, because those pages did not print one. Commitment-true is e0–e2. Settlement (win/lose) is not a default of √DU-. Unavailable packagings are described in prose. They are not printed as strings.
Arity: four places, not a four-place atom. Index 2 lists Mandarin dǔ under Risk / Betting with hierarchy Agent > Stake > Proposition > Platform. This page counts four places of the event: Bettor, Opponent, Stake, Proposition. Platform is an optional locative. Voice adds the Bettor. The root takes the Stake. CONTENT relates the Proposition. A coverb (跟, or 对 when the reading is AGAINST) carries the person layer. Only the Stake is the object. Denomination is not a fifth sister.
What this page does not do. 打赌 and 下注 stay companions. 押 is not opened. Navajo is not given a stem.

Hierarchy

Same inventory as English bet, the Romance twins, and Japanese 賭ける. The four places are not four co-arguments of one flat grid. A flat grid would predict two structural objects and a bare Opponent after the verb. Mandarin shows one structural object (the Stake), one structural subject (the Bettor), and coverbs for the Opponent, for AGAINST, and for the platform.

0.2 个比特币 = one MeasureP, one object. n and U compose inside that QP. 把 fronts the whole QP. The notes’ WH answers treat 比特币 and 5 个比特币 as answers to one object question (赌了什么). A degree question stays inside the QP (把多少比特币). Composition of the verb is V(MeasureP), not V(n)(U). Two denominations under 还是 (5 个比特币还是 500 万狗狗币) are still one Stake slot. 整枚 is WHOLE inside the classifier, not a second unit.

Hierarchy the notes use: Agent > Stake⟨n,U⟩ > Proposition > Platform, with the Opponent as an oblique outside that ranking. What Mandarin changes is the cloth: preverbal 跟, one object, optional 把. What it does not change is the inventory. Settlement is still not entailed. The platform still does not become the object. Order is not the diagnostic. 在…上 before the verb and 在…上 after it are the same locative.

Object WH · one QP · constructed from the notes’ legal rows

✓ 把多少比特币跟 Paul 赌了? constructed · degree inside the fronted QP

The notes also list packagings in which the degree, the unit, the Opponent, or the platform would have to be a second object or a second 把. Those packagings are unavailable. This page does not print them. The moral is the same as English bet and as 付’s amount: the measure is one QP.

Geometry · 赌 beside the live Mandarin roots

In Suzanne 跟 Kim 把 0.2 个比特币赌特朗普会赢,在 Kalshi 上, the measuring object is the stake at risk under a proposition. That is a commitment. It is not a completed transfer.

  • English bet Paul 5 BTC. Two bare objects. Mandarin’s match is 跟 plus one Stake object. See the argument-difference paragraph above.
  • 賭ける. One を on the Stake, Opponent in と, AGAINST in に対して, platform in で. Mandarin’s 跟 / 对 / 在…上 / 把 are the Group A cloth of that same inventory. The Japanese page’s person-に controversy is not restaged here.
  • 付. 把 fronts money. 给 is HAVE. e2 is Recipient HAS Amount. 赌 uses 把 for a Stake at risk and 跟 for the Opponent. Settlement is not HAVE.
  • 卖. 把 fronts the goods. Price is a different measure. The Stake of 赌 is not that goods theme, and 给 is not its person marker.
  • Exchange. The notes keep 换 off 赌. 把 on 换 fronts one theme; the other theme is a different phrase. An opposing stake in 对 is not that second theme. 用比特币换 DOGE is a different verb in the notes.
  • 收 / 收费. The DraftKings fee clause in the should/would notes (用 USDC 下注 on a second offer) is a second event. USDC there is not a second unit of the bitcoin stake.
  • 专款专用 and 拨给. Purpose and Goal are not the Proposition of a wager. 给 on 拨给 is a Goal. It is not 跟.
  • Commitment-true is e0–e2. A follow-up that she never put anything at risk denies the commitment. A follow-up that the proposition came out false denies CONTENT or settlement, not the bet event itself.

Open items

  • 和 versus 跟. The extracts print 跟. 和 is the usual comitative and is not given its own row. A printed or elicited 和…赌 clause would confirm the twin. It was not in the files checked here.
  • 押在. Not in the Group A extracts. Left unopened.
  • One 在 or two. The Larson panel separates 赌在 (content) from 在 Prizepicks (platform). One passive string puts the platform inside 被赌在…上. Attachment when only one 在 appears is open.
  • 给. Treated as another root because the notes say so. No grammatical 给 sentence with 赌 is printed, so the coercion claim is unchecked against a speaker.
  • 被 and the Bettor. The passive strings promote the Stake. Whether the Bettor is named, dropped, or introduced by a coverb on 被 is not settled in the extracts.
  • 要 versus 应该 versus 会. The should/would notes: 要 is colloquial SHOULD and can be heard as future; 应该 is the cleaner deontic; 会 is WOULD. All three sit above 赌. Not places of the root.
  • Corpus. No BCC or CCL search was run. The dictionary entries checked do not illustrate 跟…赌 or 把…赌. A monolingual citation is the next source step.
  • Character and gloss. The Larson file still flags Volume 4 tightening. Roman names and ticker words in the constructed strings are the notes’ working transcription, not a glossed text.
  • 打赌 / 下注. CC-CEDICT glosses both. 下注 is also “to pour” of rain. The Kim question uses 下注 as the Stake verb and 赌 as the clause introducer. Neither companion is paged. Argument identity between 赌 and 打赌 is open; the dictionaries put them in one family and do not print frames.

Corpus filenames and sources checked

Constructed argument frames: Bet_GroupA_Larson_Shells (split field: 跟 and 把 before 赌; 赌在 and 在 after; one object; 给 as another root); Bet_Darshawn_Why_Should_Would_GroupA_Contrast_Set (对 versus 跟, 在…上, one 把, 要/会); Bet_Darshawn_Passives_Groups_AB (被 of the QP). Transcript notes in the same set: the Larson shelling thread, the PrizePicks / BTC / DOGE question thread, and the verb-argument hierarchy thread. Inventory shared with English bet, counted here as four places. This tick does not re-transcribe every thread sentence. Unavailable strings in those files are not copied onto this page.

Series placement: Mandarin sense×language twin of English bet, Japanese 賭ける, Spanish apostar, French parier, and Italian scommettere. Records the four places, the single object, the 跟 Opponent, and 在…上 as a locative. Does not reopen causation-chain papers. Does not invent a Navajo stem.
