Creditor lines: subject + person (direct object or clitic me / o) + sum (em + NP, or por + NP)
com of the Amount unprinted · a + beneficiary unprinted on the money lines · lhe of the person unprinted as the object of creditar
A financial credit, on the deposit reading, puts a sum on an account. The one who credits is the subject, when a clause names one. The amount is the direct object. Portuguese nouns have no case ending, so that object is not a morphological accusative. The account is em. Aulete prints na conta dele. na is em fused with the feminine article. Michaelis prints em minha conta. Wikcionário prints em conta beside the amount o valor. Infopédia’s Portuguese–English article prints creditar o saldo em conta nova, and an IATE gloss on that page prints creditar montantes numa conta. numa is em + uma.
A second money reading inscribes someone as creditor of a sum. The person is the direct object, or the clitic o or me. Aulete marks the sum with em, em quinhentos mil reais, and adds pela restauração da ponte. pela is por + a. Wikcionário marks that sum with em as well, em 300 contos de réis. Michaelis and the older Aulete block mark it with por: pelo dinheiro, por dois contos. No money line opened here marks the amount with com. No money line marks a beneficiary with a + NP. The printed a belongs to the cause and authorship senses.
What is different from English credit X to Y / credit Y with X. Oxford’s bank verb prints both clothes. credit B to A: $50 000 has been credited to your account. The amount is the subject of the passive, and the account is to. credit A with B: Your account has been credited with $50 000, and The bank credited the oil company with $500 000. The account or the company is the object, and the amount is with. The same entry also prints the account alone as the object, They credited my account two days later. Cambridge’s learner entry prints They credited my account with $20. The business entry prints The bank mistakenly credited almost $1 million to his account and the shareholder's account will be credited. Portuguese deposit lines keep the amount as the direct object and mark the account with em, not with to and not by making the account the object of a with-phrase. com of that amount is unprinted. On the creditor lines the person is the object, as the oil company is the object in Oxford, and the sum is em or por, not with.

Marking map. On a deposit line, read the direct object as the amount and em as the account. On a creditor line, read the direct object as the person and em or por as the sum. Do not read à inexperiência or aos autores as the account.
Direct object of the amount, on the deposit lines. Aulete sense 3: o salário dos funcionários, and R$ 500,00 beside na conta dele. Michaelis: nosso salário, and uma quantia inferior à que solicitei beside em minha conta. Wikcionário sense 3: o valor que pedi beside em conta and the clitic me. Infopédia’s translation article: o saldo and the IATE montantes. Priberam prints no clause. The monolingual Infopédia entry prints no clause. Its third sense is lançar (quantia) em conta-corrente; depositar. The parentheses name the amount. They are not an example.
em of the account. Aulete na conta dele. The definition of that sense is Depositar (uma quantia) na conta bancária de alguém. Michaelis em minha conta. The gloss is Lançar em crédito (de alguém). Wikcionário em conta, with no article. Infopédia Portuguese–English em conta nova. IATE, on that page, numa conta, glossed to credit sums to an account. Infopédia’s monolingual sense 3 names em conta-corrente in the definition. Priberam sense 4 is Aumentar o crédito, o saldo de uma conta bancária, with no preposition of the verb and no clause. The same sense glosses creditar with depositar and sets it opposite debitar and levantar.
The person on the creditor lines. Aulete sense 5: a concessionária is the direct object, the sum is em quinhentos mil reais, and pela restauração da ponte names the work. Wikcionário: Creditou-o em 300 contos de réis. Michaelis: creditá-lo pelo dinheiro, and não me creditou with no sum. The older Aulete block: creditá-lo por dois contos. The clitic of Fiz-lhe is not the object of creditou. lhe as that object is unprinted. A full noun beside a, as a beneficiary of the sum, is unprinted on these lines. dele in na conta dele is the possessor of the account.
com is unprinted as the marker of the amount. No deposit line and no creditor line opened here uses com where English uses with. The English with-phrase is Oxford with $50 000 and with $500 000, and Cambridge with $20 and the business with the $219 difference.
a is not the account. Aulete and Michaelis print à inexperiência for the cause. Wikcionário prints aos autores originais for authorship of images, and the passive promotes as imagens. Aulete’s trust sense prints a participar do festival, a plus an infinitive. None of those phrases is na conta.
Passive. The Dinis line promotes contas and names no amount and no em. Wikcionário’s passive promotes as imagens, which is the authorship sense. No source opened here promotes the salary or R$ 500,00 to subject. Oxford promotes either the amount, to your account, or the account, with $50 000. That pair is the English alternation. The Portuguese lines do not print it as two promotions of one deposit clause.
lançar. Michaelis glosses the deposit sense as Lançar em crédito (de alguém); depositar, lançar. Infopédia glosses it as lançar (quantia) em conta-corrente. Both are paraphrases of creditar. No entry opened here prints a finite clause of lançar a crédito, or of lançar with its own account and amount. The IATE pair creditar / bonificar, glossed remit, is a terminology pair on the translation page, with the editors’ disclaimer, and it has no clause. It is not a second frame.
