Working paper. Japanese-only micro-entry from Allocate_Earmark_Comparison §11.1 Group A (wariate-suru / tō-o waru · ni-Goal, o-Theme), sharing √ALLOCATE_GOAL geometry with the English twin allocate-goal.html and earmark sister geometry from Lexical_Entry_Earmark_Argument_Structure. Constructed diagnostics diagnose particles, Double-o, Goal vs Purpose, MeasureP / floating counters, and HAVE sliding; they are not spontaneous-speech citations. Mandarin / Romance / Navajo companions in the same DOCX are pointed only — this tick does not deepen them.
Constructed examples. Frames below are packaging hypotheses aligned with Group A notes (“Japanese wariate-suru / tō-o waru lean allocate (ni-Goal, o-Theme); yotō-suru / ategau can lean earmark / set-aside. Purpose tame-ni on both; Goal ni on allocate-verbs. Double-o still unused.”). Designation-plus-Goal-address is e2. Spending, transfer out of the reserve, and HAVE are not entailed as defaults. Do not fake elicitation.
Beyond Index 2. Index 2 does not list Japanese under Allocation, and it does not list allocate as an Index 2 lemma. Index 2 Allocation cites book, reserve, and schedule only. Like deduct · Japanese and sell · Japanese, this root sits Beyond Index 2 as a Group A sense×language page. Keep ni-Goal as the listed third; do not collapse to earmark’s tame-ni Purpose or grant’s required HAVE.
Scout / deferred. Mandarin 拨给 / 分配给, Romance destinar / allouer / stanziare, and Navajo classificatory-stem packaging remain labeled speculation/scout. Relative productivity of 配分する / 充当する vs primary 割り当てる, and of light-noun 割り当てする vs the lexical verb, is scout-leaning where the extract lists forms without ranking them. 当を割る (tō-o waru) is logged from the comparison paper as allocate-leaning — not a second root invented here. No fake elicitation.
Other allocate roots off this page. This page is allocateGOAL only (resources to an office). Scout/flag only — do not import NegQ: allocatePOST (キムを夜勤に割り当てた · assignTASK posting), allocateASCRIBE (責任を請負業者に割り当てた · attributeATT / blame), allocateSLOT (三時間を問題に割り当てた · Time as Theme). Earmark has none of those distractors. Japanese 割り当てる is a common POST verb — that cloth is not this page.

Hierarchy

Same inventory as English allocateGOAL. Not three co-arguments of one V predicting a stable Double-o and a transfer. Surface count can name the president, 14M BTC, and the ministry — but the listed third is a Goal individual y via Japanese ni, not a Purpose property via tame-ni (earmark). HAVE(y,m) is optional / speaker-variable, not required. Writing those three as sisters of a grant-like Appl_HAVE predicts productive Double-o and a drawing-rights challenge to e2. Japanese keeps the middle, and it still refuses two o.

Intended labeling (shared with English)

√ALLOCATEGOAL + Theme (MeasureP ⟨Amount, Denomination⟩ · o) + Goal (ni-PP / Appl_GOAL) · DESIGNATE · optional HAVE

Voice introduces Agent / Initiator with authority. Theme is the measuring inner argument — often a Measure QP ⟨n, U⟩ (14M BTC) under ACC o. Goal is an individual (office, ministry, lab, budget line) under ni. Optional Purpose remains Type B tame-ni / yō-ni on top of Goal. Spending / transfer / HAVE are not listed as required results. Light-noun / lexical-verb packaging (割り当てる, 割り当てする, 配分する) keeps one GOAL geometry.

14M BTC = one MeasureP. Orthography / #P morphology is not extra arity. Amount and Denomination share one Case object. Composition is V(#P), not V(n)(U). Hom(m, e): the designation is measured by the quantity. Floating counters under negation still split N from Num+# — they do not split Amount from unit as two verbal sisters (MeasureP_Japanese_Counters).

Working hierarchy: Agent > Theme > Goal (> optional Purpose, Time, Source — high / peripheral). Theme outranks Goal for measuring; Goal can promote in passive (unlike earmark’s Beneficiary). What Group A Japanese changes is particle cloth. What it does not change is the inventory.

Neo-Davidsonian sketch (comparison §3)

∃e [ DESIGNATE(e)
  ∧ THEME(e, m)
  ∧ GOAL(e, y)
  ∧ Hom(m, e) ]
  · HAVE(y, m) optional / speaker-variable — not listed as required

Contrast √EARMARK: DESIGNATE(e) ∧ RESOURCE(e,m) ∧ RESTRICTED_FOR(e,m,P) ∧ Hom(m,e) — no HAVE. Contrast grantGIVE: Appl_HAVE required. Japanese spells Goal as ni, Purpose as tame-ni.

Japanese frames · Case clothes

Theme object under o; Goal as ni-PP that can promote. Double-o is unused — Japanese does not copy English’s degraded DOC as two ACC Themes. Four-place surface: ni-Goal + tame-ni Purpose. Primary lemma: 割り当てる / wariateru. Light-noun 割り当てする / wariate-suru is the same GOAL cloth. Companion 配分する / haibun-suru stays allocate-leaning (split-among Goal). 充当する / jūtō-suru is a hinge toward Purpose / earmark — flagged, not merged.

MeasureP WH · denomination diagnostics

WH forces Amount ≠ Denomination inside one Case object. Verbal WH sees the Theme MeasureP under o, not unit and degree as two objects of allocate. Same MeasureP pattern as payGIVE’s Amount, sell’s Price, chargeFEE’s fee, deduct’s decrement, bet’s Stake, and earmark’s Resource — here the MeasureP is the addressed Theme (ACC), and Goal stays a selected ni-PP (or promoted).

Floating counters under -nakatta (open confirmation)

Group A open item: Japanese floating counters under -nakatta on 割り当てる should still split N from Num+# rather than Amount from unit — the MeasureP_Japanese_Counters note. Counters ride the QP; they are not a second object. Double-o remains unused by Goal and unused by U. This tick logs the prediction; it does not invent a closed elicitation paradigm.

Superiority ranks Agent > Theme > Goal > (optional Purpose / Time / Source). Amount and Denomination never compete as two verbal WH-items. Cheap NegQ association tracks the Case object: ACC MeasureP under 割り当てる. Goal-ni is selected enough to WH with dare-ni; it is not a second ACC.

Geometry · allocateGOAL ≠ earmark ≠ grantGIVE ≠ uru ≠ nyūkin

In 大統領は省に 14M BTC を割り当てた, the BTC is addressed to an office. The ministry need not HAVE drawing rights. Spending is not e2. That is Allocation with Goal flavour — between Purpose-restriction (earmark / 充てがう) and conferral (grant / 交付する).

Light packaging (same geometry):
  割り当てる · 割り当てする · 配分する
  — lexical verb / light-noun / companion; Goal stays ni

Voice introduces Agent with AUTHORITY(x,e) as a selectional / felicity conjunct — not a fifth argument. Presidents, treasuries, CFOs, protocols, and statutes pass; bare persons need a hat; weather fails. Theme sits as Incremental Theme of the designation under ACC o. Goal attaches as Appl_GOAL / wrapper-K spelled ni — listed enough to promote, not listed enough to be a stable second ACC the way grant’s Recipient is. Purpose, when present, is Type B tame-ni outside the first phase. Putting required HAVE in is how the grant cloth (交付する) is written — a different root packaging.

Japanese assigns ACC to the Theme. Goal is ni-PP (or promoted to subject). Purpose, Time, Source are further PPs. Passive promotes Theme QP as a whole, or Goal (✓), never Amount alone, never U alone, never Purpose into subject. Double-o is unused.

Voice filter · authority

✓ 誰が / 何が省に 14M BTC を割り当てたのか。

✓ 大統領 / 議会 / 法案 / 財務省が割り当てた。 office / statute / body

* 天気が省に 14M BTC を割り当てた。 not an Allocator

✓ 14M BTC は大統領によって省に割り当てられた。

✓ 省は大統領によって 14M BTC を割り当てられた。 Goal promote + ni-yotte Agent

Same authority filter as earmark; stronger than deduct’s Allocator-ish filter; different from blame’s Judge filter.

DOC continuum · Japanese refuses the English middle as Double-o

* 大統領は省を 14M BTC を充てがった。 earmark · no DOC

* 大統領は省を 14M BTC を割り当てた。 allocate · Double-o unused (English DOC is only degraded / variable)

✓ 財団は研究室に 14M BTC を交付した。 grant · ni Recipient · HAVE

English’s speaker-variable ?*allocated the ministry 14M* does not license two ACC Themes in Japanese. NegQ cheapness: Theme QP under o is cheap; Goal needs ni (or promotion).

Type A · 〜させる wrap

✓ 上司は財務省に 14M BTC を省へ割り当てさせなかったのか。 outer Neg denies causing · causee = ni (≠ Goal)

* 上司は財務省を 14M BTC を省へ割り当てさせなかった。 Double-o under CAUSE

* 上司は天気に 14M BTC を省へ割り当てさせなかったのか。 weather still not inner Allocator

Type A -sase- over inner GOAL allows Causee ni and still forbids two o. The Theme stays the inner o. Goal stays Goal. Purpose stays Type B.

NegQ pointer · association sites

Negative questions on allocateGOAL read the Allocation-plus-Goal geometry; they do not invent a fourth theta name. Neg sits high and associates downward. Cheap inner associate = Theme QP in the ni-frame (Goal if promoted). Purpose stays tame-ni when present. Spend-true missing as default; HAVE challenge speaker-variable.

Group A packaging · this tick Japanese GOAL only

Group A (English, Japanese, Mandarin, Navajo) keeps the Goal vs Purpose Case split under Neg. This tick is Japanese allocateGOAL only — 省に 14M BTC を割り当てなかった (o-Theme, ni-Goal); *省を 14M BTC を割り当てなかった (no Double-o); Purpose tame-ni extra. English twin is live at allocate-goal.html. Mandarin: 拨给 / 分配给 write Goal with 给; 为了 marks Purpose (earmark diagnostic); 把 fronts the whole QP — pointed, not deepened. Navajo: classificatory handling stems plus outer purpose or beneficiary postpositions; restriction-without-Goal vs address-to-office is particles and context, not two inner Patients — remains open/scout. Label speculation; do not fake elicitation.
